Rewiring the Mind: Healing Generational Trauma and Embracing Your Inner Freedom

In our short time here on earth, we are all on a unique journey to discover our life mission and what brings us joy. We learn about friendship, loyalty, love, acceptance, anger, and pain. Many of us do our best to make the world a better place for our loved ones and for future generations. At birth, we are dropped into a unique place on earth and into a family that has a certain religion, beliefs, language, culture, morality, education, and social economic class. Families all have different expectations and desires for us and our futures. The units that we are born into have generational trauma that can damage us emotionally and physically. This painful trauma finds a comfortable home inside of us and burrows there until we release the emotion and heal our wounds. If we aren’t able to break the cycle of trauma, we may pass it on to our children and their children’s children. Inside our brains, different neurons are constantly interacting with one another. These interactions trigger all of our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. The synchronized electrical pulses from neurons interact to create brainwaves. Electrical signals are constantly being emitted from our brains, and their frequencies change depending on what we are doing, thinking, and feeling. A frequency is defined as the number of times a wave is repeated within a second. An example of frequency is tuning into a specific channel on a radio station. Each channel is a different frequency, and the static between the channels are simply frequencies that aren’t being used by anyone at the moment.  If any of the frequencies in the mind are excessive, difficult to access, or scarce, then our critical thinking and cognition can be impaired. Brainwaves are categorized into five different sections, and each section is responsible for a certain state of consciousness. Slow brain waves are present when we are feeling relaxed or sleepy. Fast brain waves are caused by critical thinking and alertness. Learning to control the frequencies in our minds is a great way to gain control over our mental and emotional well-being. Between the ages of 0 and 8, we are in a programming state where Alpha and Theta cycles are prevalent. During this age, the majority of waking hours are spent the low frequency vibration. These are the same brain waves that are present during hypnosis, meditation, imagination, deep relaxation, and REM sleep. Hypnosis is a learning state that is connected to the subconscious mind and while in this state, we are highly suggestible to everything around us. In other words, children’s brains are like sponges that soak up all beliefs, ideas, information, and suggestions presented to them. Information received during this time usually comes from caregivers and other adults. These are the years when we form beliefs about who we are and how the world works. Many of these beliefs will be held subconsciously for the rest of our lives, and they will manifest in our decisions, the way we act, what we accomplish, what we desire, and how we choose our friends and lovers. From ages 0 to 8, we do not have a conscious mind for critical thinking, logic, decision-making, and reasoning. The conscious mind acts as a filter that accepts or rejects new information and ideas based on their congruence within an existing belief system, or if the topics are already known to the subconscious. Without a critical filter, there is nothing in place to stop suggestions from entering the programming. During childhood, it is important that children develop positive beliefs about themselves. A positive and loving belief system will create a confident and self-accepting adult who is comfortable making mistakes and completing goals. Begin to think of the human mind as a garden with rich and fertile soil. Imagine a seed is planted for each thought you have. When an environment creates negative self-thinking thoughts like: “I’m not good enough,” “I am annoying,” “I am unlovable,” “I am stupid,” and “I can’t do anything right,” then these thoughts get played on repeat over and over again. Now, imagine that each time a thought is repeated, the seed gets watered. Over time, the seed will grow into a small plant and eventually into a tree with thick roots. Do you see how one thought can become a belief system over time? Once a thought turns into a belief system, it stays in the subconscious mind and becomes part of the programming. As you can see, it is imperative to guard your thoughts and resist any negative self-talk. At age 8 or 9, the brain transforms and no longer produces only slow brain wave patterns during waking hours. Beta brain waves are generated when we focus on cognitive processes and the outside world. Beta is a “rapid” activity that occurs when we are aware, concentrating, thinking critically, making decisions, and problem-solving. Therefore, they are no longer living in a hyper-suggestible state and these wavelength patterns continue into adulthood. At this age, everything changes when they develop critical minds and critical filters. They start questioning suggestions and ideas with their newly developed critical minds. All of their knowledge and critical thinking is based on the information that was absorbed in the hypnotic stage of life.  If the suggestion or idea is unknown to the subconscious program, then it automatically gets rejected by the filter and the idea is not accepted. When a new suggestion is known to the program and the logic is available to decide that it matches the program, the suggestion is accepted. By connecting to the subconscious mind and your higher self, you can use hypnosis as a superpower to change your life! Without hypnosis, it is impossible to alter the subconscious programming. You become stuck with the behaviors, beliefs, habits, logic, reasoning, and trauma passed down from your caregivers and childhood. With the help of a hypnotherapist at Metamorphosis Healing, you can be the author of your own subconscious programming. For more information on hypnosis, contact
